James Wright’s self-titled album has three songs with the word “ikaw.”
These are: Sana’y Ikaw
, which was the theme song of Carmela
; Kung Hindi Ikaw
, which is the theme song of My Destiny
; and Ikaw ‘Yon.
James sings of a love so deep and overflowing yet he does not have a girlfriend.
James said “Ikaw” is his mom – a school teacher for kids and a breast cancer survivor. His mom had breast cancer in 2009.
And when he tells people about this inspiration, he said the reactions are often of shock.
“Kasi 'yung (lyrics ng) songs, 'I love you so much, I want to be there with you forever' parang it's really pang-wife and girlfriend 'yung peg ng kanta,” he said.
He explained that Sana’y Ikaw
and Kung Hindi Ikaw
are messages for his mom and fans.
“For me it's like saying, ‘The person I want to be (with) in the future, the person I end up with, to be exactly like my mom. Kasi if it's not my mom, just like the song, Kung Hindi Ikaw
, I don't want to love again. I won't be content. That's why the album was there because that is for my mom,” he added.
James admitted that his mom is his weakness.
“You say anything bad about my mom, talo ako diyan. Wala akong pakialam kahit nasa labas ako pero pag may sinabi kang masama sa mommy ko, lagot ka. So yeah I'm a very big mama's boy.”
The good son that he is, James said his ultimate dream, after making an album and a name for himself, is to get his mom out of work.
James revealed that he is willing to work “48 hours a day” just to fulfill his dream.
"I'm a mother-loving boy. I love my mom so much. I'm willing to do anything to achieve my dreams,” he added.
