Vicki Belo warned against using portable beauty gadgets that can be bought online.

Celebrity doctor Vicki Belo gave her opinion about at-home beauty gadgets that have become very accessible to buy online.

These gadgets are usually handheld devices used on the face which promise to tighten the skin, get rid of discoloration, slim down the face, and the like.

"I'm getting a lot of questions from you, my friends, my followers. You are all asking me if these things that you can buy on TikTok or Lazada if they work. I invited a friend. This is Dorothy who likes to buy stuff. So tell me, do those things work?" she says in a video she posted on Instagram.

Vicki's friend Dorothy then shared her experience with some of these gadgets.

"I bought a lot during the pandemic. I used to go to Belo regularly but then there were no mean of treating myself [during that time] so I started buying online. Sadly, I bought a lot and if you're not an expert, you can cause damage to your skin," Dorothy explained.

She added that while some of the gadgets do deliver some results, it still poses some danger to use them without the guidance of an expert.

"So there's this device that I bought in the States for $400. It's so expensive. Yeah, I saw some results. My skin was really nice but then my face got so thin. It got sunken and people were like, 'What happened to your face?' I overused it," she recalled.

Vicki also added her own experience in using these at-home beauty devices, particularly the one she discovered during an awkward encounter in a dermatology and plastic surgery convention in Paris.

It can be recalled that Vicki and her husband and fellow doctor Hayden Kho attended the IMCAS World Congress in Paris back in 2020.

The couple stopped by a booth of a handheld anti-aging device where the merchandiser claimed that their product was being used by the famous doctor Vicki Belo from the Philippines.

"I didn't really buy it, but they were using my name to advertise it. I said, okay, give me the machine and I'll see if it's any good. I really just played along," she explained.

"You know what it did to me? It has good energy as far as RF (radio frequency) was concerned but the LED light, it gave me melasma because it was just too strong. It took me a while to get rid of it. It's not controlled, normally, these devices," Vicki continued.

Finally, she gave an important piece of advice those who might be tempted to use these gadgets, especially on their faces.

"I think the thing is, you go to your dermatologist. You're worth it. It's your one and only face. Stop fooling around with it," she said.
