Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto teach their kids to do household chores.

Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto are happy to be raising a big family with five kids and one on the way. Last February, they announced that they are expecting their sixth baby on Instagram by sharing a sonogram.

For the couple, it's their choice to have many children. "Gusto ko 'yung marami akong nakikita around the house, gusto ko surrounded ako by family, 'yung different noise for as long as masarap pakinggan," Kristine told Modern Parenting in an online feature.

After being part of the Sotto clan, Kristine attested that having a big family is great for the kids' well-being.

Kristine said, "Meron ka laging someone to call on kasi I grew up in a small family. Si Oyo, big family ever since so sanay siya do'n. So, no'ng naging part ako no'ng family nila, I'm always excited na wow ang daming kausap. Entertainment para sa 'kin 'yon just by watching them, talking to each other so nae-entertain talaga ako. Saka 'di ka mauubusan ng kausap when the other one is not at home, for sure, may isa d'yan na you can talk to. 'Yun yung masarap na feeling kapag marami kang kapatid."

Oyo wants their kids to grow closely together and develop friendships with one another.

"'Pag nakikita ko 'yung mga bata, lagi ko sinasabi sa kanila na, 'you're so blessed.' Sabi ko ang dami ninyo kasi kami kami lang ni Ninang Danica n'yo. Tapos naalala ko kasi growing up with my sister, kayo lang din mag-stick together, 'di ba? So parang kayo 'yung magtutulungan minsan sa kalokohan pa, so parang na-i-imagine ko din sila na gano'n din. Alam mo 'yung parang buddy-buddy lang sila, barkada. Saka no'ng pandemic hindi sila malungkot...masaya lang sila."

While raising a big family is too much work, Kristine and Oyo make sure to involve their kids in household chores.

Each of their children is assigned to different tasks at home occasionally. This not only improves their relationship skills but also teaches them not to be overly reliant on their yayas.

Their eldest Kiel, 16, is assigned to tutor his younger sibling Vin, wash the dishes, and feed and bathe the dogs.

Ondrea, 12, is in charge of caring for her two-year-old brother Isaac, their youngest sibling.

Kaleb, at nine years old, already knows how to fold his clothes. He and Vin, 7, also help his older sister to look after Isaac.

Oyo shared, "We have a kasambahay naman but, as much as possible, gusto namin 'yung independent sila, alam nila para kapag wala, alam n'yo kung ano 'yung gagawin.

"Kiel and Ondrea know how to cook pero, siyempre, 'yung mga simple lang. But the good thing is you know how to cook. At least kapag wala tayong kasambahay or kunwari we travel tapos wala kang kasama, you know what to do."

Kristine and Oyo tied the knot on January 12, 2011 at Club Balai Isabel in Batangas. They have been married for 13 years now.

The couple adopted Kiel, their eldest, before they got married.
