Andi happily documented the special moment on video.
Ellie Eigenmann showed off her scuba diving skills in a series of photographs posted by her mom, actress Andi Eigenmann.
The pictures showed the 9-year-old Ellie comfortably underwater and clad in complete diving gear while accompanied by her instructors.
“That's my girl!” Andi proudly wrote on Instagram.
“She got to try it out at the pool the first day, and went out into the ocean on the next! She was so brave, and what a bittersweet feeling it was that she seemed so secure and confident just being with her instructors and didn't even need me. I am living vicariously through this child.”
Andi jokingly referred to herself as a “beluga whale” and “stage mama” as she took videos of the special moment.
Ellie's fondness for the water and diving is not surprising given that she and her family have been living the island life in scenic Siargao for a few years now.
Her stepdad Philmar Alipayo is a professional surfer and engages in free diving - a form of underwater diving that does not use a breathing apparatus or air tank.
Philmar recently shared photos of himself deep underwater and holding his breath for several minutes.
Andi, meanwhile, has always been a beach lover even before she decided to relocate to the countryside and away from the city in 2018.
“I've always been an island lover, like a beach girl. 'Yan ang favorite pastime ko,” Andi told Tunay na Buhay host Pia Arcangel recently.
Andi confided that her decision to take a break from showbiz stemmed from her desire to spend more time with Ellie.
Ellie is Andi's daughter with actor Jake Ejercito.
“I've been to many places in the world, iba lang 'yung naging effect sa 'min ng Siargao. Kumbaga nakita ko talaga 'yung sarili ko doon.
“When we first went there she was only five years old, and she really fit in so well. She made friends so fast.
“Hindi ko gagawin 'yung desisyon kung hindi ko rin nakita sa anak ko na pareho kami na gusto namin ito, bagay kami dito,” said Andi.
It was also in Siargao where Andi met Philmar. The two fell in love and now have a daughter, one-year-old Lilo, and another baby on the way.
