Maxene Magalona

Maxene Magalona shares a heartwarming story to remember her late dad last Father's Day.

“God truly works in mysterious ways.”

This was the realization that dawned on Maxene Magalona after sharing an odd but fascinating story involving her family and husband, Rob Mananquil.

“Years ago, our family did an endorsement for a cola brand which we shot in a beautiful house in Makati. I remember having so much fun with everyone at the shoot, working while spending quality time together,” Maxene wrote on Instagram.

“My dad [Francis Magalona] always loved cracking jokes and making us laugh which made work so much more enjoyable.”

The setting of the shoot was a kitchen and with an abstract painting hanging on the wall as a backdrop.

“One day, someone tagged me in a throwback photo from the shoot that we did and I immediately showed it to @robmananquil. I even told him that the location where we shot the endorsement was a house that belonged to one of our godparents in our wedding, Tito Keren Pascual. When he saw the photo, he turned to me and said, 'The painting behind Pop is one of my artworks,'” Maxene recalled.

Rob's revelation floored Maxene and reaffirmed her belief in serendipity.

“Since then, we decided to hang the painting in our living room so that we can be reminded that God brought us all together for a purpose.”

Maxene told the story to mark Father's Day last Sunday, June 20, and pay tribute to her late dad.

Francis Magalona died on March 6, 2009 after months of battling acute myelogenous leukemia.

Some of Francis's most notable hits include “Cold Summer Nights,” “Mga Praning,” “Girl Be Mine,” “Whole Lotta Lovin',” and “Mga Kababayan.”

Maxene's sister, Saab Magalona, also gave her own touching tribute to their father by singing a cover of Francis M's song, “1-800-Ninety Six,” included in his 1996 album, Happy Battle.
