Therese Malvar showed off her proud apo moment as she celebrated the 157th birth anniversary of her great-great-grandfather, Philippine revolutionary general Miguel Malvar.
Clad in a white Filipiniana gown, the Kapuso actress was present at the commemorative event that took place last September 27 at the Museo ni Miguel Malvar in Santo Tomas, Batangas.
On Instagram, Therese, who is also a descendant of Dr. Jose Rizal, shared photos from General Malvar's 157th birth anniversary celebration with her fellow descendants of the Katipunero officer and representatives from the local government of Sto. Tomas and National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
In the caption, she thanked those who remembered her Lolo Miguel's historical legacy.
"Sa ngalan ng aking pamilya, ang Malvar descendants, nais ko pong magpasalamat sa karangalang ibinibigay ninyo para sa aming minamahal na Lolo Miguel. Maraming salamat po sa Local Government Unit ng Sto. Tomas Batangas at sa National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Mabuhay ang pagkaPilipino! Mabuhay si Gen. Miguel Malvar!"
Miguel Malvar, a businessman and farmer, joined the Katipunan and participated in battles in Batangas and Cavite during the Philippine Revolution.
Subsequently, during the Philippine-American War, Malvar was appointed division general of the Southern Luzon forces and led his troops in battles in Batangas and Laguna.
After his surrender in 1902, Malvar focused on his family and resumed his agricultural and commercial pursuits.
He succumbed to kidney failure on October 13, 1911 at the age of 46.
