"She fought courageously [and] graciously," Alfred wrote on Instagram as he remembers the 9th death anniversary of his mother, Atty. Ching Vargas.

Actor and public servant Alfred Vargas marked the 9th death anniversary of her mother, Ching Vargas, who succumbed to cancer on March 29, 2014.

On Instagram, the AraBella actor shared black-and-white photos of her late mother.

He wrote in the caption, "She fought courageously & graciously. It was the last lesson she taught us. To face life with responsibility, meaning [and] purpose. To love [and] make a difference even in your smallest of ways. To have no fear in life, only fear of the Lord."

"Rest in peace, Mom. Mahal na mahal kita. Thanks for always praying for me and guiding me. Thanks for always being there for my family."

In an interview with GMANetwork.com and other select member of the press, Alfred revealed that his master's degree in public administration was his promise to his late mother who was an attorney.

"This is a promise fulfilled to my mom," he told in 2021. "Noong pa-graduate ako sa Ateneo noong 2002, imbes na mag-law school ako, dumiretso ako sa pag-aartista."

“'Yung mother ko, lawyer. Medyo bumigat 'yung loob niya. Medyo nagalit siya sa akin, as in nagkaiyakan pa kami before.

“Pero sabi ng mom ko, noong napanood niya ako, lalo na sa 'Encantadia,' sabi niya, 'Sige, okay lang. Basta, kahit hindi ka mag-law school, anak, just promise me you will pursue graduate studies.' [Promise] ko sa kaniya 'yon."
