
As we wrap up Women's Month, we'd like to pay tribute to the women founders who brought the spotlight to the rich culture of our motherland and created an impact internationally to showcase what Filipinos can do.
Zarah was a former flight attendant who transitioned in the bag and shoemaking industry in 2006. Currently, she partners with local artisans, weavers, and suppliers to create one-of-a-kind pieces that really stand out. Her brand, named after her own, boasts a collection of #juanofakind pieces from wicker bags in the shape of kalesas, tricycles, and jeepneys to slip-ons hand carved in Paete.
Farah Abu
Farah Abu is a jewelry designer born in Iligan City and was an architecture graduate from UST. Her love for anything accessories and geometric designs eventually led her to create her own line of jewelry crafted with glass beads, cultured pearls, and agate stones. Her clients include Heart Evangelista, Catriona Gray, and so much more.
Kyla Olives
Kyla Olives knowledge of fine linens stems from her mom and dad, Pey and Tony Olives, who owns Casa Kyla and manufactures wholesale items for the hotel and restaurant industry. She eventually branched out from the family business and created The Olive Tree Corporation that specializes in customized plates, blankets, and fine linens to decorate your home. Products include weaves and loomed fabrics from Binakol pieces in Laguna.
Reese Fernandez-Ruiz
Reese Fernandez Ruiz founded her brand Rags2RichesInc back in 2007. The brand is a fashion and design house that partners with local artisans across the Philippines to create eco-ethical fashion. Because of her work, she has been invited as a speaker at the 2018 World Economic Forum along with Alibaba's founder, Jack Ma.
Techie Hagedorn
Techie Hagedorn is an Economics major turned fashion designer who started her clothing line Alegre in 2009. Her brand started when she decided to make a beach cover-up for herself that eventually transitioned to dresses, tops, and jumpsuits that are mostly made from jusi fabric.
