By Racquel Quieta

World-renowned Filipino designer Michael Cinco is known for the fabulous red carpet outfits and wedding gowns that he creates. But, it seems like the most important creation he has made so far in his career has been crafted during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 20, the fashion genius has unveiled a new creation that's not only visually pleasing but also helps save the lives of medical frontliners: stylish lab protection gowns!

Michael Cinco is among the seven fashion designers based in the Dubai Design District (D3) who joined the Arab Fashion Council's #AThread4Cause.

#AThread4Cause is an initiative that calls for UAE-based designers to help out in producing protection gowns and surgical face masks for medical workers, who are in the front line of the battle against COVID-19.

While there are also other stylish designs of protective personal equipment (PPE) produced by other designers, Michael Cinco's design definitely stands out, as it resembles high fashion dresses seen on the runway.

In a Facebook post, Michael Cinco said, “This is not really an actual dress...It is just a plain protection lab gown creatively draped and styled on mannequin to make it look like a high fashion dress for our amazing medical frontliners fighting for COVID-19 in UAE.”

Without a doubt, health and safety are top priorities amid the ongoing pandemic, but Michael has proven that there's always room for creativity and style, even in creating PPE for medical workers.

May this pandemic give birth to more fashionable PPE made with creativity and compassion, just like Michael Cinco's stylish lab protection gowns.
