Emma Watson joins Board of Directors of French luxury fashion group

By Racquel Quieta

Emma Watson is primarily known for playing the iconic role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. But she has quite an impressive resume too, especially with the recent addition of Board of Directors member to it.

The English actress has been known for her advocacy work on feminism and environmentalism, including promoting sustainable fashion.

In March 2018, Emma was the cover girl and guest editor of Vogue Australia's 'Designing the Future' issue, where ethical and sustainable fashion was championed.

And now, fast-forward to two years later, Emma joins the board of French luxury fashion giant Kering, along with Jean Liu, president of Chinese ride-sharing business Didi Chuxing, and Tidjane Thiam, banker and recently appointed African Union special envoy.

Emma was also named as the Chair of the Sustainability Committee of Kering's Board of Directors.

Kering is an international fashion empire that specializes in luxury goods and sustainability.

Some of the brands that Kering owns are Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, and Bottega Veneta.

Kering's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, François-Henri Pinault, husband of actress Salma Hayek, has welcomed the new members of the Kering board in a statement.

““I am delighted to welcome Jean Liu, Tidjane Thiam and Emma Watson to our Board of Directors. Their respective knowledge and competence, the multiplicity of their backgrounds and perspectives will be invaluable additions to the reflections of Kering's Board of Directors. The collective intelligence that comes from the diversity of point of views and the richness brought by different experiences are crucial to the future of our organization, and I am proud to add such impressive talents to the team.”

It's indeed exciting to see what Emma will bring to the table as Kering's Chair of the Sustainability Committee.
