American rapper-singer Lil Nas X comes under fire over his collaboration with Brooklyn-based company MSCHF called the “Satan Shoes.”
It was announced on March 26, Friday, that Lil Nas X and MSCHF will be releasing “The Satan Shoes” on March 29, which coincides with the observation of the Holy Week, more specifically, Holy Monday.
The “Satan Shoes” is basically a pair of Nike Air Max '97, customized to contain 60cc ink and one drop of human blood.
True to the name of the sneakers, there will be 666 pairs of it, a number famously associated with the devil.
Each pair will be individually numbered and costs $1,018 or around P49,346.53.

Aside from a drop of human blood, the “Satan Shoes” also contains a Pentagram charm on each shoe. The Pentagram is also referred to as The Devil's Star.
Plus, it has a Bible verse that also mentions Satan, Luke 10:18, which says “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
Although the “Satan Shoes” is made with a pair of Nike sneakers, the footwear and sports apparel giant clears that they had nothing to do with the creation of the said shoes.
The shoe company's spokesperson told Input, “We do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”
MSCHF confirmed this by saying, “We confirm that we did not work with Nike. They had zero involvement with the shoe.”
It's unclear whether the shoe giant plans to issue a cease-and-desist order to Lil Nas and MSCHF.
But if in case they do, the "Old Town Road" singer and his collaborator company can argue that It is an art project and could therefore obtain legal shielding.
This is not the first time MSCHF released a controversial pair of shoes, using a pair from the same brand. In 2019, they came up with the exact opposite of the “Satan Shoes,” the “Jesus Shoes.”
The “Jesus Shoes” aptly had Holy Water inside a pair of the Nike Air Bubble.
