Filipinos continue to make waves abroad as two of our world-renowned designers, Michael Cinco and Furne Amato, win big at the prestigious EMI Gala Fashion Awards.

Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco was hailed the Fashion Designer of the Year, one of the highest honors at the EMI Gala Fashion Awards presented by the Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards (DIAFA), and held at the Hilton Hotel in Al Habtoor City, Dubai on July 14, Wednesday.

On his Instagram post, Michael thanked the EMI Gala for the recognition and also his business partner and loved ones who have always supported him.

The Filipino fashion icon also dedicated the award to his peers who lost their lives during the pandemic.

His caption reads, “So honored to receive the most prestigious and highest honor of the night the FASHION DESIGNER of the YEAR Award from EMI GALA Fashion Awards...Thank you Dr. Michel Daher of @theemigala...

“I'd like to share this award to my business partner Sayed Ali @sayed5inco, to my whole M5 team, to my family and friends and to those people who always believed in me...

“I would also like to dedicate this award to some of my friends in the fashion industry who lost their lives from the pandemic, some people who lost hope and living a very tough and difficult lives right now. And everyone who is battling to survive from the crisis...

Meanwhile, Furne Amato, who designed Rabiya Mateo's eye-catching yellow evening gown in this year's Miss Universe pageant, bagged the award for International Fashion Designer of the Year and Fashion Innovator.

Furne also shared a photo of himself holding his trophy and expressed gratitude for his big win.

It can be recalled that Michael Cinco created gowns for Miss Canada Nova Stevens, which later on sparked controversy, after Nova's team made allegations against Michael's team.

Michael had already said his piece about the issue and Nova has since apologized to Michael for the comments made by her team.

Last June 11, Michael also received the Noble Hero Award (Dakilang Bayani Awar) from the Philippine Consulate General in the UAE.

Aside from their stunning creations worn by the candidates in this year's Miss Universe pageant, both Michael and Furne have dressed up Hollywood A-listers such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Mariah Carey.
