Tracy Maureen Perez has just been crowned as Miss World Philippines 2021. The 28-year-old stunner who represented Cebu may be effortlessly beautiful, but some of the creations she wore during the pageant's Gala Charity Night held on July 22 were equally eye-catching.
During the said gala night, Tracy secured a spot in the finals or coronation night after making it to the top 10 finalists in both the Top Model and National costume competitions.
For the top model competition, Tracy wore a creation by designer Pablo Mendez. The dress, called Bulawan, is bright yellow in color with intricate details on it. It was made to resemble the element gold.
In an Instagram post, Tracy said that the inspiration behind her Top Model dress was the myth of the hidden treasures in the Philippines during World War II.
During that time, numerous pieces of invaluable art, artifacts, and other treasures were destroyed and spirited away from both Europe and the Asia Pacific.
And when the war ended, several rumors and tales were born about these lost treasures, including the infamous Yamashita's treasure.
As for Tracy's national costume, she donned a creation by designer Axel Que called Vessel of Faith.
Tracy's frock with oversized sleeves and skirt is white and gold in color and has floral embellishments on it.
It seems to be a cross between the Sto. Niño's outfit and the voluminous clothing that marked the 16th century.
She also wore a golden head piece that had a galleon on top, designed by Louie Gallego.
In an Instagram post, Tracy said that her national costume celebrates the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines.
It can be recalled that Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who led a Spanish expedition, arrived in Cebu, Philippines aboard a galleon in 1521.
It was during their arrival that Christianity was introduce to the Filipinos.
This historical moment is always re-enacted during the Sinulog Festival, where Ferdinand Magellan presents the image of the Sto. Niño as a gift to the newly-baptized Rajah Humabon and Hara Humamay a.k.a. Queen Juana.
In her Instagram post, Tracy said, “This piece really inspired me of how strong and devoted the Cebuanos are when it come to their faith. This art piece is my tribute to our beloved "Sñr. Santo Niño."
