Rica Peralejo

Rica Peralejo admits getting injured for not wearing the right shoes while doing jump rope.

Rica Peralejo is not denying that she has gotten crazy about jump rope.

In fact, Rica wore her pink jump rope on her body during the opening of Hoka's first concept store in the Philippines at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City last February 15.

“Kuwintas ko 'yan!” she proudly said when GMANetwork.com asked about her attention-grabbing “accessory” that day.

Then, the actress-celebrity influencer admitted, “I've fallen in love with it. I didn't expect it also. It was a surprise na I could jump pala.”

Like any other workout, Rica saw a lot of benefits of doing jump rope regularly.

She mentioned, “Of course, fitness, you'll see that right away. It helps you sa heart, sa pagpapapayat or sa strength. Pero more than anything else, sa joy, sa saya na nakukuha ko from it.”

However, before starting doing this workout, Rica reminded newbie jumpers that aside from the rope, it's equally important to use proper footwear. This is based on her experience when she got injured while jumping rope because she was wearing the wrong pair of shoes.

She warned, “Pwede ka ma-injure kapag mali ang sapatos mo. Pwedeng maikli lang ang buhay ng paa mo kapag mali 'yang sapatos mo. Kinda like me, na-injure ako. Kaya ko na-discover ang Hoka.

“I asked yung friend ko na nagja-jump. Sabi ko, 'Uy, mali yata ang sapatos ko.' 'Tapos, sabi niya, 'Ano ba ang sapatos mo?' Sinabi ko yung sapatos ko and sabi niya, 'Hindi naman performing 'yung shoes.'”

Aside from the shoes, she also stressed this to beginners: “Start gentle.”

She further explained, “A lot of people ask me how to start jumping, hinihingal daw sila. Sabi ko, kahit lima lang, okay na yun. Even if you do it for a month and lima lang kaya mo, okay lang.

“Don't expect to do hundreds or thousands kaagad-agad. You're setting yourself up for failure. But if you're thinking na kahit lima lang sa isang araw… you don't know what five jumps will get you or how far it will get you as you progress in jumping.”
