More than being a shopping mecca, Hong Kong is known for its culinary scene.

The small island is actually home to over 50 restaurants with Michelin star ratings ranging from eateries to fine dining establishments.

Its gigantic red sign, typical greasy spoon style interior, and traditional stir-fries all point to an authentic Hong Kong culinary experience.

Named after an area in Bangkok where the Chinese traded with the Thais, the restaurant emulates the authentic street-stall vibes with its rattan blinds, bare concrete walls, and distressed wood furniture.

Be prepared to queue because this restaurant serves over 1,000 customers a day. They mostly come for the trademark shrimp wonton, beef and rice noodle stir fry, and congee with prawns.

The Chairman looks at small suppliers and local fishermen for its ingredients and much of the produce used is organic. Must-orders: steamed crab with aged Shaoxing, crispy chicken stuffed with shrimp paste, and almond sweet soup.

This is the first Asian venture of chef Virgilio Martinez Veliz, who helms the famed restaurant 'Central' in Peru. Signature dishes include pargo al rocoto (sliced snapper with avocado) and tacu tacu chupe (tiger prawns with beans and aji panca).

The ground floor houses a cake shop while the top floor boasts a sensuous dining room furnished in soft greys, muted pinks, and brushed gold. The owner created the menu using local ingredients such as osmanthus, Pu-er tea, and kumquat. Talk about fancy!
