'Pop Talk' reviews 3 student-friendly restaurants in Metro Manila

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Eating out is great, especially if you're out with your friends and just want to de-stress from work.

But as a student, it's a rarity to eat out because you'd like to stretch out your savings for more important things like homework, projects, and supplies. And when you do eat out, you'd want to go somewhere that's worth your time and money.

Fortunately, Pop Talk has a few suggestions where you could eat a wonderful meal and get a bang out of your buck.

1. Ate Rica's Bacsilog

Ate Rica's Bacsilog takes its humble beginnings as a mobile food cart that started in May 2006 at De La Salle University's “hepa lane.” With the help of her regular customers, Ate Rica Penalosa was able to open her first permanent stall at the back of DLSU and was able to open its first branch at the University of Santo Tomas, across the UST Hospital, a few years later.

To date, she now has more than 60 branches open city-wide and offers budget-friendly meals, from her signature bacsilog meal to omelets that range from PhP 74 to PhP 99 -- perfect for students and office workers who are in their “petsa de peligro” days.

What's more, Ate Rica's Bacsilog is also available for delivery through delivery apps, depending on your location.

2. The Hashery

The Hashery is a casual yet fashionable dining cafe made for students, reviewees, employees, and professionals who just want to experience iconic global cuisines at an affordable price.

Located in Sampaloc, Manila, The Hashery offers a wide range of meals like Korean chicken, Macau-style Pork Asado, Penne Al Pomodoro, and so much more. The price range isn't half-bad, because they offer full meals at PhP 120 up to PhP 150.

Like Ate Rica's Bacsilog, The Hashery is also available via delivery.

3. Amo Yamie Crib

Originally from the city of Pampanga is the student-friendly cafe and Instagram-worthy spot of Amo Yamie Crib found in Mendiola.

Each customer, called “cribbers,” gets to choose the crib they'd like to stay at for the day where they can enjoy the meal.

Aside from its cool interior, the cafe offers a wide variety of food from burgers to sandwiches to milkshakes that'll surely make hanging out with your friends enjoyable and fun.
