Wanna know how Chuan Kee's Braised Beef Brisket and Awi's Café and Restaurant's Beef Stir-Fry with Mango are made?

Binondo, Manila is home to the oldest Chinatown in the world. During the American occupation, it served as the country's center for commerce. Although, of course, Binondo is less crowded during the pandemic, in modern times, it has become a tourist magnet both for locals and foreign visitors.

People can go shopping at the Lucky Chinatown Mall, visit old churches and the Chinatown museum, check out the newly restored Jones Bridge, and walk along the streets of Escolta and admire its “old-world” charm.

But, no trip to Binondo is complete, without indulging in authentic Chinese food. So, 'Pinas Sarap' host Kara David did just that.

Kara went to two popular dining spots in Binondo to discover how their respective best-selling dishes are made.

Braised Beef Brisket

The eight decades-old ChuanKee Chinese Fast Food is one of the most iconic restaurants in the Binondo area. And one of their signature dishes is the mouthwatering Braised Beef Brisket.

In the Chinese food trip episode of 'Pinas Sarap,' Chef Rommel Deacotido showed how to cook the iconic, authentic Chinese beef dish.

If you want to try it at home, below are the ingredients and procedure.

Ingredients:

Procedure:
1. Sauté the garlic and ginger.
2. Add beef.
3. Add water.
4. Add round pepper, star anise, bay leaves, salt, soy sauce, ketchup, and special spices.
5. Mix well and let it boil for a minimum of three hours or until the beef is soft enough.
6. Sprinkle with spring onions and serve.

Beef Stir-Fry with Mango

Another popular restaurant in Binondo is Awi's Café and Restaurant. In the same 'Pinas Sarap' episode, host Kara David learned how their signature Beef Stir-Fry Mango dish is made from Chef Larry Mamites.

If you're curious about how this interesting dish is made, check out the ingredients and procedure below.

Ingredients:

Procedure:
1. Quickly fry the beef until it turns brown.
2. Sauté the garlic, red bell pepper, green bell pepper and onions.
3. Add margarine.
4. Pour pork stock.
5. Add the pre-cooked beef.
6. Season with seasoning, chicken powder, and light soy sauce.
7. Add oyster sauce.
8. Add sliced ripe mangoes.
