Matt Lozano on having depression: "One time, parang gusto ko na lang tapusin lahat."

Kapuso actor Matt Lozano opened up about an important and defining moment in his life on the February 4 episode of GTV's cooking talk show Lutong Bahay with Mikee Quintos, Chef Ylyt, and his mom Elaine Lozano.

While sharing a hearty meal, Mikee asked Matt about his experience in battling depression and what ultimately led to his episode.

“Nagkasabay-sabay kasi 'yung time na 'yun, nasa… that time, I was the winner of [a singing competition], four months straight, may mga prod kami 'tapos, biglang nawala,” Matt told Mikee.

Mikee followed-up, “Ah, na-affect ka nun?”

“Yes,” Matt answered.

According to Matt, he kept auditioning for shows and projects, but all of them would reject him.

“Magulo. Sobrang gulo ng utak ko noon. Feeling ko walang nag-su-support sa akin. Feeling ko… basta nag-ibang tao ako. Basta one time, parang gusto ko na lang tapusin lahat,” he added.

But one moment changed everything for Matt.

“I was driving a hundred kilometers per hour sa Congressional Ave. Lasing na lasing ako noon. Sobrang nasa darkest [moment] ako noon. 'Tapos, habang nasa Congressional Ave. ako, bigla na lang nag-pop sa head ko na 'Ay, may simbahan doon, ah,' stop [then] u-turn [ako].”

Matt said he laid all his emotions at church, even though he had to stay outside because it was late at night.

No problem! Kinuha ko gitara ko…”

With everything he has been through, Matt Lozano shared an important lesson he holds on to until this day.
