Tom Rodriguez switches to plant-based diet

Hints: it includes a Youtube video, Pinterest, and his friend Rafael Rosell

Everyone is on the search for the perfect healthy diet. But Tom Rodriguez has found the right one for him: the plant-based diet.

The Kapuso hunk shared that his battle with his low immune system and allergies prompted him to lead on to a healthier lifestyle.

With that in mind, he was further inspired by his friend Rafael Rosell who has been a vegan for a long time already.

“I've been wanting it for so long,” Tom said.

“I tried to before but I only lasted for two weeks.

“I was inspired by my good friend, si Rafael Rosell, and he's been doing it for his whole life.

“And since when I was 26 years old, nagkaroon ako ng allergies, parang nag-recur from my childhood. I've been thinking na maybe a healthier lifestyle would fix my system.”

What a day! Woke up itching, feeling hot and couldn't breath with hives/inflammation all over my body, face and throat(not sure yet sa cause but i ate some pinapple from walmart before bed)...good thing I had some prednisone for some allergies and took that right away with antihistamine and was able to call for help. The hospital staff were all amazing and had me back in tip top shape right away...although I wasn't able to ride the rocket, I did get to spend time at the Houston consulate and met the amazing people who hold that fort down as well as our fellow kapusos and kababayans who were there getting their passports...nakiusap sana ako kung pwedeng umawra para sa passport pic ko...kaso may flight ako agad kaya baka di kaya in ahahaha ;) boarded na ako ngayon sa flight ko headed to phoenix to see my family!!! Woot!!! What an adventure of a day :) nakatour pa ako ng ospital....no need to worry, I have meds and I am A-OK!! :):):) #adbentyurnitomas #mangtomasdiaries

If you're curious and want to try it out, a Plant-based diet can be literally described as a diet that consists food from plant sources.

Indeed, it requires vegetables, grains, fruits, nuts, and seeds, but its real requirement is to reduce or to avoid animal ingredients such as meat, dairy, eggs, or honey.

It definitely sounds healthy, but what are the benefits you can get from following the diet?

According to Medical News Today, a plant-based diet will help you with manage your weight, prevent Diabetes, and lower the risk of heart disease and other conditions. In addition, you can contribute in conserving the environment!

Tom Rodriguez also told GMANetwork.com that another factor that moved him to start his journey to a healthier life was a Youtube video of a woman herd-calling.

The animal lover Kapuso star shared that he always grappled with the issue of being a meat-eater his whole life and loving animals.

He explained, “Parang there's a disparity na something doesn't feel right and yet you're used to doing it--it's part of your culture, part of your life to consume or eat meat.

“No matter how much I try to break from it, I can't seem to do so.

“But it made me realize what difference is there between my dog which I treat like my own daughter and those cows that were enjoying life and music.

“It felt so wrong, sabi ko, I have to try again. I have to attempt to make a change.

“I'm not out there to convince people or to preach, it's just for myself, siguro just to have some peace at night.”

But fret not, you can still enjoy your beloved comfort meals by just giving it a twist!

Learn from the also artistically talented Tom Rodriguez whose game plan is to substitute his favorite food items for a plant-based alternative, and getting his ideas on Pinterest.

Although he forecasts that discipline will be challenging for him especially in the coming holidays, he finds comfort and assurance in the support of his fiancee, Carla Abellana, who brings him vegan desserts they can try and enjoy together.

He related, “Mag-start sana ako ng diet ko like, getting back into shape, after Dragon Lady. Kaso, right after, nag-start yung show namin ni Carla, 'yong Love of My Life.

“So, ngayon pa lang ako nag-start ng diet and, so far, okay naman.

“May disiplina pa rin naman, nakakatakot kapag nandiyan na sa harap mo yung mga masasarap na pagkain.”

Asked how long he's going to follow plant-based diet, Tom replied, “I am trying to see this plan as a lifetime routine, and so far, I've been feeling really well on it.

“I am on my third week and I am enjoying it.”
