Have you been drinking way too much milk tea lately? Find out if you're already at risk for diabetes. Read on.

On Pinas Sarap's recent episode, the milk tea addiction of Filipinos was put in the spotlight. According to Grab Food, the average Southeast Asian consumption of milk tea per month is four cups, but Filipinos consume around five cups per month.

What's in a cup?

As for calorie content, plain milk tea only has 2 calories, but if you add milk, you'll also be adding 150 calories. The pearls will add up 78 calories and sugar will contribute 100 calories to your drink. So a cup of milk tea can contain as much as 300 calories or more.

Are you at risk for diabetes?

Nutritionist Dietitian Carla Raga recommends one milk tea per week or five to nine teaspoons of sugar on a daily basis. If you consume around 20 teaspoons or more in a day, then you may be at risk for diabetes.
