Coronavirus Eye Protection

COVID-19 can enter through your eyes, so it's important to wear protection. But which is better, eyeglasses or contact lenses? Get the answer HERE:

One of the ways in which the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is transmitted is through contact with respiratory droplets that an infected person emits when he/she coughs, sneezes, or talks.

These droplets can enter your body when inhaled through your nose and mouth, but it can also enter through your eyes.

You can also get infected by touching tables, door knobs, or gadgets that have the COVID-19 virus and then touching your eyes, as narrated in the Department of Health's informative video about COVID-19.

Hence, it's crucial to wear protection for your eyes in order to avoid getting infected with COVID-19.

Many people opt to wear goggles and face shields or protective masks to keep themselves safe from COVID-19, especially our medical frontliners.

But in the absence of such protection for the eyes--and if you need graded lenses to see clearly--which is better to wear, prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses?

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) recommends wearing prescription eyeglasses instead of contact lenses, in order to better protect yourself from COVID-19.

Those who wear contact lenses tend to touch their eyes more often, thus creating more opportunity for the virus to infect them.

But if you can't avoid wearing contact lens, the AAO advises that you make sure your hands are clean before touching your eyes, most especially your fingertips.
