"We shouldn't be stopped by our monthly visitor," says Jasmine Curtis-Smith about working out during a period.

Some women find it difficult to find the energy to workout during their period.

However, for Jasmine Curtis-Smith, the monthly period shouldn't get in the way for women to continue moving and exercising.

"I still workout during my period because I heard and I learned that it actually helps with your flow and it's also very good for your cramps.

"You know, making sure lang that you don't skip out that energy, that muscle memory, and just exercising and moving around.

"We shouldn't be stopped by our monthly visitor. We should just keep going and build strength alongside it," the Kapuso actress at the online launch of her new endorsement, Jeunesse Anion sanitary pad, held recently.

According to Medical News Today, exercising during a period can actually improve mood, reduce fatigue and menstrual pain.

"Also, exercise is a healthful choice in general. It helps a person maintain their weight and keeps the heart and lungs healthy."

Exercises during your period don't have to be vigorous.

Take for example Jasmine, who does heavy weights and intense cardio workouts on normal days but shifts to lighter exercises during her period.

"I swtich up yung workout ko," she told GMANetwork.com.

"Kung usually yung workout ko is may weights or heavy cardio, heavy body movements na talagang your moving from place to place, I boost lower workout like yoga, I do stretches.

"Kasi, hindi maiiwasan yung phase sa period natin and it's called luteal phase, o ang scientific natin."

Luteal phase is a stage in a women's menstrual cycle. It happens after ovulation and before a period starts.

"Kapag nasa luteal phase ka may part talaga doon, one or two days, na your body does not want to move.

"Para kang stiff, para kang may ache sa body, so just to make sure na may movement pa rin. Switch up lang to yoga or stretching para lang mayroon pa ring movement.

"Slow pero may push. May push ]pa rin pero hindi lang siya kasing-hardcore or sweaty [gawin]."

To make the workout easier, Jasmine advised fellow ladies to wear comfortable pads during your period.

Jasmine shared what she looks for in a perfect pad, "When I was younger, I need lagi na may wings. Yun talaga yung kinailangan ko when I was young kasi parang di ko pa gamay yung kilos ko, di ko pa tantya yung flow ko talaga.

"Baka kasi mamaya, yung mga na-try ko kasing ibang brands, kapag walang wings, it didn't stick so well or baka mag-overflow pero di sumakto sa mismong pad.
"These are the struggles that I encounter to my previous pads--things na parang titiisin mo na lang pero, you know, hindi dapat."

Jasmine stressed, "Hindi ka naman dapat nagtitiis kapag may period ka kasi minsan one week 'yan.

"Yun yung learning joining the Jeunesse family and being their endorser, to treat yourself like a queen.

"It also taught me na, yes, there are other things na iisipin mong you should treat yourself like a queen from other things like, you know, buying clothes, jewelry, etc.

"But sometimes hindi natin inisip na yung hygiene natin is pinaka dapat kung saan tayo nagti-treat yourself like a queen.

"Doon nagsisimula 'yon, e. Doon nagsisimula yung confidence, yung freshness natin and all of that.

"Dun lang din ako natuto na hindi pwedeng titiisin ko lang yung discomfort."

But what about annoying period-related symptoms like cramps and headache, one may ask.

Jasmine said acceptance is the best answer to beat these symptoms.

She said, "I think, number one important diyan is acceptance na mayroon tayong PMS because when we accept it, hindi tayo gano'n ka-stress, ma-manage natin siya as part of our monthly life.

"Mayroong monthly dalaw talaga, so once we accept that hind na tayo maha-hassle.

"We accept the care that we have to give ourself, you know, 'Okay, kailangan kong magbanyo, papalitan ko 'to, and I have to clean up a bit.'

"Kailangan, intentional ka sa ginagawa mo, e.

"So, kapag intentional ka, maiintindihan mo na it's for you, for the better of yourself, ng hygiene mo, ng sistema mo, and ng araw mo rin.

"Kasi, the moment na may isang part ng katawan mo ang hassle, yun lang ang iisipin mo.

"Iisipin mo yung migraine mo, so imbes na nag-paracetamol ka na lang or naglagay ka ng oitnment sa cramps mo para ma-relieve nang kaunti ang PMS mo, gagawin mo na lang siya, hindi mo na kailangang sabihin."

In the end, Jasmine noted that women should prioritize themselves when it comes to health and wellness.

"You just do it because you want to take care of yourself," she said.
