Thinking of starting a food business? GMA News and Public Affair's Pera Paraan shows you some of the tips to try in starting your own food business.
Award-winning pastry chef and cooking show host Jackie Ang Po says a food business is more than just the recipe, one should have the basic skills in business.
"It is more than a recipe," she said.
"My honest opinion, before you start your home business, is to take kahit one class lang sa mga professionals na katulad ko.
"Kasi mas magastos ang magkamali kaysa mag-lesson sa tunay na chef, para hindi ka nagsasayang ng ingredients at pagod."
Chef Jackie also shared some of the important matters one should consider before starting a food business on her social media.
She honestly stated that having a food business requires some capabilities and skills.
"It cannot be all passion," she stressed.
Having enough funds for putting up a business is also a must.
Business owners must have enough budget for a growing small business.
"They [should] have the capacity to sustain their business," she said.
Commitment to the business especially in the first few years is also essential for a business to thrive.
The owners must be willing to be "24/7 boss and employee at least for the first few years."
Chef Jackie also has some advice for moms who want to start their own business while taking care of their families.
"Do what is best for your children. Make them a priority over your career," she advised.
Seeking help from family members, helpers, and relatives in taking care of the children is useful, but quantity and quality time with the family is also needed.
