First and foremost, they have an air-purifying property which can also absorb toxins from the air, most likely brought by dirty household items such as heavily used rugs.

It's safe to say that plants play a big role in a green thumb's overall wellness. The question is, are you properly taking care of your indoor plants?

Here are some tips from agricultural engineer Francis Alpas on how to keep your indoor plants alive and thriving.

1. Use water sprayer when watering the plants

“Since hindi nagsasalita ang mga halaman, hindi natin alam kung uhaw na siya. Medyo tatantiyahin natin kung [kailan] didiligan. Mas maganda sa lupa ang dilig pero 'wag tabo ang gagamitin lalo na 'pag indoor. Dapat spray lang siya o kaya diligan n'yo siya using a water bottle tapos lagyan sa ilalim ng platito o kaya dip tray.”

2. Do not water your plant's leaves

“Hindi n'yo dapat spray-an 'yung dahon ng halaman. 'Pag madalas dinidiligan 'yung dahon, posibleng magkaroon ng disease 'yung halaman din.”

3. Beware of insects

“”Pag may langgam sa halaman n'yo hindi 'yung langgam 'yung peste. Ibig sabihin may aphids 'yan. Kasi 'yung langgam gusting-gusto niya 'yung dumi ng aphids kasi matamis 'yon.

Aphid is a kind of insect that loves feeding on the sap of plants.

“Gusto ng aphids ang young na leaves. Sa lamok naman, iwasan natin na naiipon 'yung tubig lalo na sa dip tray. 'Pag nasosobrahan naman ng dilig ganu'n ang nangyayari.”

4. Use all-natural soap solution to get rid of insects

“Tanggalin n'yo muna 'yung mga aphids sa halaman. So tawag ko du'n sinasampal ng konti 'yung halaman para lumipad 'yung aphids. Tapos tsaka n'yo siya spray-an ng all-natural soap solution.

5. Don't use detergent as spray solution

“Ang magandang gamitin ay all-natural na soap hindi detergent para hindi siya chemical talaga. Ten grams to 100 ML na water mga 10% 'yung solution. 'Wag masyadong matapang 'yung solution.”
