The eight-day online film screening of the Cultural Center of the Philippines aims to raise awareness about mental health

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are around 3.6 million Filipinos who are suffering from mental health issues. And with the pandemic still in full swing, that the number could get much higher as more and more people succumb to feelings of anxiety and uncertainty.

Now, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is lending its support to mental health awareness with a free online movie screening.

Called Balik-Tanaw, it will run from October 23 to 30, and will feature films with themes ranging from depression, dementia, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Here are the featured films to be screened during the eight-day movie event:

Rekuwerdo

The word “rekuwerdo” means “memory” in Filipino. The movie follows the life of a family and its struggle in dealing with the impact of dementia. It centers on Pining (Erlinda Villalobos), a 73-year-old woman, and her 77-year-old husband Pedring (Ernie Cloma), who is in the last stage of Alzheimer's disease. Kristoffer Brugada directed the movie.

Oh, Aking Katoto

Traumatized by the separation of her parents, Nymfa found a new friend to share her worries with. Their seemingly genuine friendship eventually turns toxic as Nymfa's friend takes control of her life. The movie is directed by Kelvin Aguilar.
