Cinema Centenario

The mini cinema shut down late last year after months of inactivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Movie fans were left heartbroken in October last year after it was announced that Cinema Centenario was closing down for good.

Launched in 2017, Cinema Centenario quickly gained a following among film enthusiasts on the lookout for movies outside the confines of commercial theaters.

The humble and cozy cinema located along Maginhawa in Quezon City was part of the budding microcinema scene that was gaining ground in recent years.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic halted that momentum, affecting the film industry across the board and hurting everyone in the scene.

The lack of income and inactivity took its toll on Cinema Centenario leading to its eventual shutdown late last year.

Now, the cinema is selling its chairs to interested parties who perhaps are planning to open their mini cinema at home or in public, or to those who might find the chairs useful in some other ways.

Cinema Centenario co-founder Hector Barretto Calma posted the offer on Facebook.

The chairs are made from mahogany wood and with leatherette cushions.

The seats are priced at P9,000 per row. There are 13 rows available with each row consisting of five chairs.

Cinema Centenario fans with some extra cash to spare will surely find the offer enticing. After all, what better way to own a piece of your favorite cinema house than by having some of its furniture in your possession?

Unfortunately, it means that Cinema Centenario is indeed done and won't be coming back even if the health situation in the country improves.

The good news is that movie fans can still experience Cinema Centenario's curated movies through its online platform, MOOV.

The cinema pivoted online to keep up with the times and to continue its mission of giving independent films an avenue for the public to access them.

Movie fans can visit www.moov.cinemacentenario.com to see the movies currently available for viewing.
