Kapuso leading lady Bela Padilla has always been a gem in television, appearing in GMA teleseryes like
Magdalena and
Love and Lies. Recently, Bela also received the Best Supporting Actress award at Gawad Tanglaw for her performance in
10,000 Hours, whose story she co-wrote. Now, Bela breaks even more boundaries as she conquers the showbiz scene in Singapore.
Among the many local actresses who auditioned for the role of Analyn Ocampo in Singaporean action-drama series,
Point of Entry, Bela’s distinct charm and talent made her stand out.
Bela shared, “I took a video of myself and they sent me a few lines to say. Honestly, I didn’t think I was gonna get it. They called me two weeks after and they asked if I could meet the director because he came to the Philippines to look at us personally. I got the role na daw.”
The series revolves around an elite team of ICA special agents, and their fight to keep Singapore's borders safe from smuggling and illegal immigration by land, sea and air.
On her role, Bela said, “My character Analyn is a Filipina who wants to help her family. Eventually, she flies to Singapore to get a better education. There, she meets the lead character (Glenn Chua, played by Jack Yang) who is Singaporean. We shot here for about two weeks and we shot for a month in Singapore.”
She also revealed, “There’s a big twist in my character. I taped fourteen episodes, so that’s one season. By the seventh episode, my character changes, so it’s nice kasi right now, that’s what’s airing in Singapore.”
What is the difference between working on a local teleserye and a Singaporean TV series?
Bela said that the atmosphere is more laid-back in local TV productions. There is also more down time for artists on the set.
She said, “Here on the set, there are so much people. There are like eighty people, from the make-up artist to the stylist, hair person. The utility people here are very kind. They pass you water or coffee or whatever you need. You have tents here where you can set up your own chair and bed.”
“In Singapore, there are only eight of us on the set. It’s just the director, the camera man, one lighting director and one assistant director. The assistant director also serves as their PA there,” stated the Kapuso actress.
Bela continued, “We’re mas maalaga here, but I appreciate that I became more independent there because I had to take care of myself.”
Needless to say, Bela’s fan base not just includes Filipinos, but Singaporeans as well. For this blessing, Bela is very thankful.
She said, “A lot of our Kapusos at Singapore have been tweeting me and kahit sa Instagram, they send me messages that they get to watch the show. Thank you so much to everyone who’s been watching and also even the Singaporeans tweet, so nakakatuwa.”
