EJ Obiena on fake endorsement

Filipino Olympian EJ Obiena took to social media to slam certain companies using him to promote their products or services without his approval.

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena acted against those using his name and photos to endorse certain products and services without his consent.

EJ, who finished 4th in the men's pole in the 2024 Paris Olympics wanted to inform the public via his Instagram post that he vehemently denies endorsing any gambling services or products.

According to the superstar athlete even though gambling is “legal,” he doesn't want to promote anything that “undermines values.” EJ then added that he also wants to support a healthy and thriving society.

He explained, “I am dragging myself to share stuff like this but it's necessary to inform all of you that I don't endorse gambling!!!

“I would like to reassure everyone that I pick and choose very carefully which products/brand I endorse/promote. It's never 'just about the money' but it has to be a product I can believe in; and also a product that doesn't undermine values; and supports a healthy and thriving society.”

EJ continued, “The latter is why I have refused to endorse alcoholic products and/or gambling businesses. Whilst both may be legal, it is irrefutable, both are regulated for a reason, and both are restricted from children. I recognise I have a platform that could influence kids and I understand and embrace this responsibility with honor and humility. I won't hence endorse products like this.”

The Olympian also advised everyone not to fall prey to such marketing tactics of companies.

“Unfortunately, some companies will attempt to loosely link myself, my name and my image to such categories without my approval,” he said.

“Implying I endorse their product or their casino. I DO NOT. Whist my lawyers are pursuing this kind of 'Guerilla' marketing legally, I wanted to in-parallel tell everyone directly I am in no way endorsing any alcohol or gambling related products. Ever. Never ever.”

This year, celebrities like Amy Perez and Marvin Agustin also took to their respective social media accounts to warn the public that their photos and names have been used to promote certain products online, which they do not endorse.
