Emman Atienza defends herself after her "guess the bill" TikTok video received backlash from netizens
Emman Atienza, Kuya Kim Atienza's daughter, has posted a TikTok video responding to hate comments she received after a video of her guessing the amount of her dinner bill with friends, has gone viral.
The said TikTok video shows Emman and her friends joking about the amount of their dinner bill, with their guesses ranging from PhP 100,000 to Php 150,000.
Netizens have called out Emman for allegedly being unaware of her privilege as a "nepo baby" or a person with influence because of his/her family.
In response to the hate, Emman clarified her side, stating the video was all just a joke between her friends, and the dinner was actually paid by her friend's agency.
"The video was a joke, I thought it was obvious because we were laughing," she explained.
"It was my friend's birthday and her agency treated us to dinner," she said, mentioning that the high bill amount was a joke as well.
Emman adds, "Even if I had paid that much, even if we did have that much money, it is our choice, and our freedom to do what we want with money that we earned."
"I've been so honest about the privileges I've been given, and the privilege that I have in my life."
"I'm also very open about the fact that I'm a nepo baby. I'm not ignorant, nor do I deny the privilege I've been given."
"If you're going to hate on me for being rich, you need to do the same for everyone. Because guess what? Your favorite celebrities, not just in the Philippines, but worldwide...make more, have more, and spend more than I ever have."
"I, a singular teenage girl, am not responsible for the wealth disparity in the Philippines."
"If you actually had an issue with impoverished people, there are ways to help that are not attacking a teenage girl."
She explains her side further in her TikTok video, which has received over 500,000 views.
