This year's Pride Month may be close to an end, but for Rian Bacalla, any day is perfect to celebrate her pride and identity as a transwoman.
Rian first stepped into the spotlight in 2015 when she joined a Philippine television reality competition and was reported to be the first openly gay teenager who joined the program. On top of it all, she presented herself as a bubbly, innocent, and loving teenager.
Years after she bid goodbye to the limelight, Rian surprised netizens when she celebrated this year's pride month with a sentimental post about her identity from gay to transwoman.
“[Nine] years ago today was the time I [joined a Philippine television reality competition] as a teen housemate,” she added, “I was once a gay not totally accepted by my family, and years forward, I've blossomed into a lady that I am now today.”
“A lot has changed since then. But one thing is for sure, I'll forever be your KID SUNSHINE NG CEBU,” she ended her statement.
Today, Rian continues to shine as a proud transwoman and beauty queen in Cebu City who grabs crowns from here and there.
