There can only be one.
This is what they say about the next Pinoy Pop Superstar, which is now starting its third season. The grand finals night for season two, held at the Araneta Coliseum, saw the rise of fifteen-year old Gerald Santos from aspiring singer to the winner of one of the country's most prestigious talent searches. In fact, a special segment on how much winning has affected Gerald's life was even aired as part of
Pinoy Pop Superstar 3's episode over the weekend. If you missed out on that, never fear. iGMA was able to sit down with the talented singer for an exclusive interview.
'Syempre po napakasaya,' Gerald said when asked how he felt after winning. 'Kaya po ako sumali dito, gusto kong manalo pero nong nakita ko na po yung ibang parang nasabi kong 'ang gagaling talaga nila'. Di ko lang po alam kung sino mananalo.'
Gerald admitted that 'Sobrang kinabahan po ako nong huling kanta,' and that he didn't expect to win. 'Sobrang nagulat po ako,' he said.
Now that he's won, he plans to hold a reunion party with his family members.
'Nag-iisip po ako ng reunion para po sa pamilya ko. Para ma-celebrate ko po itong panalo ko at para makapag-bond naman kami.'
Gerald, along with fellow contestant Hazel Santos, were the top two remaining
Pinoy Pop contenders in the grand finals. Gerald said that he prayed very hard in those few seconds before the winner was announced.
"Pangarap ko po ito mula pagkabata ko. Gusto ko po talaga itong kinakakatayuan ko ngayon at gusto ko pong matulungan yung pamilya ko," he said.
Gerald, who is the second of three children will be able to help with his siblings schooling. "Gusto ko pong tulungan yung family ko. Mahirap na po ngayon. Mahirap na pong kumita ng pera," he says. Due to his busy schedule, however, the high school senior is looking into home schooling, instead of attending regular classes.

Gerald knows that he wouldn't have been able to win if it weren't for his God-given talent and the support of those around him. "Syempre po unang-una kay God. Kay papa, salamat po sa suporta nyo. Thank you po talaga. Sa mga sumusuporta po sa akin, maraming-maraming salamat po," Gerald said.
As important as the prizes that winning
Pinoy Pop Superstar brings, Gerald is infinitely more thankful that, above all, he is able to entertain his fans. "Thankful po ako kay God at binigyan po nya ako ng ganitong talent. Nana-entertain ko po yung mga tao. Napasaya ko sila," he said.
The other contestants did not go away empty-handed. Hazel Santos, one of the last two contestants, said that being in the competition taught her, 'patience at siguro mas na-strengthen yung relationship ko with God kasi if weren't for Him wala po ako dito.'
Elise, best known as being the Fil-Canadian songstress, shares, "I'm relieved. I'm happy that it's over. I'm gonna miss all the fun."

Don't miss out on the next round of
Pinoy Pop Superstar, airing Saturdays.
