In
an age of cable television and high tech games, very few children are
growing up with the same awareness of the rich cultural heritage to be
found in our folk tales. Remember the tales your grandmother used to tell
you? About where the monkey got his tale or why the lanzones
has a small nail mark on its skin? Relive those tales as GMA brings you
and your kids a whole new show guaranteed to not only entertain but also
enlighten.
Ang Mahiwagang Baul is a special program designed specifically to appeal to children. The weekly anthology seeks to rekindle an interest in the myths, legends and folktales of Filipino culture. Entertaining in its retelling of these Philippine stories, the tales also develop a deeper understanding, love, and pride of our own culture.
Ang
Mahiwagang Baul stars young artists Eisen Bayubay and Sandy Talag who
play siblings Epoy (Bayubay) and Jewel (Talag). The two children are brought
by their mother Lourdes (Shamaine Centenera) to their Lola Tacia’s
(Carme Sanchez) house. Their adventure starts when Jewel discovers a glowing
trunk in Lola Tacia’s attic. Full of unique objects and trinkets,
the children are soon fascinated by the stories that surround these items.
Then they discover a stairway inside the chest! And when they decide to
follow the steps and explore its depths, this unravels a secret world
of fantasy and magic where the young siblings will experience and learn
about a variety of myths and legends. The world inside the magical trunk
is a realm without boundaries, and this is where Epoy’s toy robot
Rextor (John Feir) comes to life and becomes a trusty company to the children
in their mythical adventures.
Each story is brought to life by an ever-changing cast of guest celebrities.
In this weekend’s episode Antonio Aquitania, Neil Ryan Sese, Gardo Versoza and JM Reyes depict the myth of the bayabas fruit and how it got its distinctive crown.
Join Epoy, Jewel and other young children as they take on another journey
through the Mahiwagang Baul, Sundays after Bubble Gang
