According to the World Health Organization, misting and spraying alcohol to your body will not kill COVID-19 and can even cause health damage to people with asthma and cough.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that large-scale misting and spraying alcohol on the body will not kill the virus that causes the Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19 and can even harm the health of people with existing respiratory diseases.

A 24 Oras report on Sunday (April 12) explained that the WHO does not recommend the two preventive methods.

According to WHO, the spraying of alcohol on your body like the ones being done at disinfection booths is not effective in eliminating the virus that has already entered the person's body.

The health agency also added that such a method can cause health problems for those who have asthma and cough.

The WHO still recommends and considers the precautionary measures such as physical distancing, proper handwashing, and avoiding touching of eyes, nose, and mouth as more effective to prevent COVID-19 infection.

In terms of cleaning personal items and high-touch surfaces, the Department of Health (DOH) said it is much better to directly wipe off the possible viruses using a towel soaked in a disinfectant.

The DOH gave two options on how to make a disinfectant solution:

The DOH also reminds everyone who intends to make a disinfectant solution to always put a label on the bottle and keep it out of reach from children.

Following the advice of the WHO, the Bureau of Fire Protection will remove all the disinfecting tents in their camps.
