The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has released the new guidelines for weddings in 2020. As expected, there will be no bridesmaids and groomsmen at the ceremonies!
Weddings in 2020 may be in for a huge change as the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) released a new set of rules for all religious services.
The guidelines are in preparation for the "new normal" once Metro Manila is eased out of community quarantine. The new policies shall be implemented to ensure the safety of churchgoers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Philippine News Agency, Bishop Broderick Pabillo the Apostolic Administrator of Manila suggested the removal of a wedding entourage.
“We allow only simple weddings this year, with only the bride and the groom with one set of sponsors and the immediate family,” said Bishop Broderick Pabillo.
Couples planning for a big wedding ceremony including a large guest list are encouraged to alter their plans and choose a smaller ceremony with one set of sponsors and the immediate family.
More Holy Masses will be scheduled to follow health protocols once the government allows the resumption of religious activities in areas under the general community quarantine (GCQ).
The Philippine Catholic Church has appealed to allow religious gatherings in areas under GCQ, in service of the psychological and spiritual resilience of Catholic citizens in the country.
