Pantone

It's not just one, but two colors for the year ahead!

As 2020 nears its end, the Pantone Color Institute has finally announced the color that will reflect the year ahead.

On December 9, the color authority has revealed not one, but two hues for the year 2021: the neutral Ultimate Gray and the vibrant yellow Illuminating.

In a press release published on Pantone.com, the institute said that the two independent colors highlight how different elements “come together to support one another.”

“Practical and rock-solid, but at the same time, warming and optimistic,” it said.

“The union of the Ultimate Gray and Illuminating is one of strength and positivity. It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.”

Pantone Color Institute continued, “As people look for ways to fortify themselves with energy, clarity, and hope to overcome the continuing uncertainty, spirited, and emboldening shades, satisfy our quest for vitality.”

For over 20 years, the Pantone Color Institute has been releasing its “Color of the Year” series, which influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, product packaging, and graphic design.

The color authority studies color trends throughout the year to decide on the next Pantone Color of the Year. They consider all aspects of society -- fashion, marketing, social media, and even politics.

For 2020, Pantone chose the timeless color of Classic Blue for its elegance, simplicity, and resilience.
