Andre Paras

The eldest son of PBA legend Benjie Paras and former actress Jackie Forster was described by Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy as the “steal of the draft.”

Game of the Gens co-host Andre Paras is officially following in his dad's footsteps.

Andre has made his entry to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) official after signing a P3 million contract for two years with Blackwater.

Blackwater drafted the 25-year-old fierce rebounder during the recent PBA rookie draft held last March 14.

Andre was picked in the third round by the team in a draft that was so deep and talented with 86 players participating and hoping to make it to Asia's first professional basketball league.

Team owner Dioceldo Sy told media that Andre along with fellow rookies Rey Mark Acuno and Joshua Torralba have signed the offer sheets furnished by the team.

The three players are expected to sign the formal contract after Holy Week.

The offer sheet contract is as good as the formal contract, with Sy telling the media that it's already a done deal between Blackwater management and the players.

The signing of the formal contract is just for the sake of formality.

Andre reportedly assured Blackwater management of his commitment to the team and basketball.

“He (Paras) said everything is now secondary to his PBA career,” Sy told the media.

Some reports said that teams were initially wary of Andre's ability to juggle basketball with his off-court commitments like hosting and modeling.

This was the reason why many observers felt that Andre's standing in the draft dropped, falling to the third round and being selected 27th overall.

Blackwater was reportedly surprised to find Andre still available in the third round and was happy to pick the eldest son of two-time PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Benjie Paras and former actress Jackie Forster.

Sy touted Andre as probably “the steal of the draft” for this batch of rookies.

Andre, for his part, has said that turning pro has always been a dream of his.

“My motto in life it's always: change your happiness to what makes you happy,” Andre said in February.

“And showbiz or hosting makes me happy, basketball makes me happy. And at this point sabay pa rin sila, so I have no reason to choose [one], kasi sabay naman po sila--both make me happy, but there might come a time, when I have to choose and I don't know the answer to that yet.”
