Former actress and beauty queen Maggie Wilson slammed the price swell of Covid-19 antigen test kits in the country especially at this time of overwhelming case surge.
In an Instagram story, she shared her first-hand encounter when she purchased antigen home testing kits that apparently have doubled in price.
“So, I inquired about buying a box of antigen test kits for a friend who's based in the U.K. for her family her[e] in the PH. The prices of a box of 20-25 kits have now doubled,” she said.
“It's disgraceful how the people who are selling them are taking advantage of the situation and upping the prices due to demand. Greed! We have no price regulations in place,” she added.
Furthermore, she expressed dismay to the government for not offering Covid-19 testing entirely for free for the entire country. She also made home testing purchase comparisons with that of the Philippines and the UK.
“It's even more disgraceful that our government does not offer them for free,” she said. “In the U.K anyone can walk into a pharmacy and ask for a box of laterflow test kits for FREE. Each kit even has a QR code where you can scan and register your results on the National Health Service website.”
“Here in the Philippines, at current prices we have to pay P10,000 a box!” She ended.
In the uptick of Covid-19 cases at the onset of the new year, various pleas for free testing have been aired online.
As of January 10, the Philippines has logged its highest positivity case at 33,169 since the pandemic started.
