Dominic Roco has a gift for acting. Sure, others would be quick to think that this is inevitable, being the son of veteran actor, Bembol Roco. It may run in his blood, but his style and approach is distinctly his own. There is more to him than being his father’s son. Dominic Roco is an actor in his own right.
?Dominic Roco has a gift for acting. Sure, others would be quick to think that this is inevitable, being the son of veteran actor, Bembol Roco. It may run in his blood, but his style and approach is distinctly his own. There is more to him than being his father’s son. Dominic Roco is an actor in his own right.

This, he has proven in his portrayal of Gibson Bonifacio in the 2012 Cinemalaya film, Ang Nawawala. In the movie, his character has stopped speaking when he was a child. At age twenty, he returns home to Manila from his studies abroad and tries to reconnect with his family and friends while taking a chance at love.

The role required zero dialogue and Dominic expressed his emotions only through his eyes and gestures. For him, this is a defining role, and his no-frills, honest approach to it is what he will use to breathe life into his newest role in the GMA Afternoon Prime series, Magkano Ba Ang Pag-ibig?

In the series, Dominic plays Bobby Buenaventura, a twenty-something autistic. Eloisa (Heart Evangelista), an employee of their household, will be paid by the matriarch of the Buenaventura clan to marry and take care of Bobby. However, Eloisa is in love with Lucio (Sid Lucero), Bobby’s half brother.

Domi ?ni? c compared his role in Ang Nawawala to his current one and said, “Siguro it’s a bit similar to the role I did sa Ang Nawawala pero sa Ang Nawawala kasi, hindi naman siya autistic. Ito, I have to input my character in Ang Nawawala and make him just a little bit more autistic. Hindi naman sobrang jittery kasi ‘yung stage ko is “High Functional Autistic” na nakakapagmemorize at socialize pero slow pa rin.”

Did he have any character pegs for his role as Bobby besides his own portrayal in Ang Nawawala?

“I was told to watch Regarding Henry and Rain Man, mga ganun. Pero personally, I researched about ‘yung different kinds of autism, I watched a few interviews sa YouTube, ‘yun lang. I just wanna base it from their behavior,” he shared.

He also mentioned that it helps that he is an introvert in real life. “I paint. I don’t go out much. I’d rather stay home or skate,” he stated. This makes him connect more with the introspective characters that he is being given.“
