The three awards that the country won are Asia's Leading Dive Destination, Asia's Leading Tourist Board, and Asia's Leading Beach Destination.
It is the Philippines' fourth time to win the leading beach destination award, beating Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and India for the said award this year.
Also, it is the country's second time winning the leading dive destination and leading tourist board awards. The first time the Philippines won the two awards was last year.
The big win coincides with the gradual reopening of tourism in the Philippines. After months of suffering from the consequences of the lockdown, the travel and hospitality industry in the country has finally begun its slow recovery.
Some world-famous tourist destinations have already reopened and hotels and airline companies in the country have come up with irresistible deals to entice Filipinos to begin traveling again.
The 2020 World Travel Awards - Asia Winners Day was held virtually on November 3, 2020. Aside from the awards that the country won, tourist sites Amanpulo and Intramuros also bagged awards.
Amanpulo, the luxury island resort in Palawan, won Asia's Leading Private Island Resort, while Manila's Intramuros was hailed Asia's Leading Tourist Attraction.
