Arnel Pineda's road to success as Journey's frontman

Singer-songwriter Arnel Pineda earned local fame in the 1980s and rose to international prominence in 2008 when he became the lead vocalist of the American rock band Journey.
In a recent performance at a music festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, fans noticed how Arnel had a hard time reaching the high notes of the band's hit song “Don't Stop Believin,'” which left the band's vocalist devastated.
Having already suffered emotionally and mentally, Arnel asked the fans to decide whether he should stay or leave the band. However, Journey's band members defended Arnel, saying that he had risen to the challenge of the band's catalog.
“He gives to YOU ALL and Journey, the best that he can give you,” drummer Deen Castronovo said in a statement.
American singer Danny Vaughn also defended Arnel, saying that even Journey has some of the most difficult songs and that even his friend Jeff Scott Soto “dedicated every waking moment of each day to being fit and ready and able to do those songs justice.”
But what was Arnel's path to finally reaching and becoming the vocalist of Journey? Find out in this gallery:
