For many Filipinos, Taiwanese actress-singer Barbie Hsu will be forever remembered for her iconic role in Meteor Garden, which first aired in the country in 2003. In the series, she played the female lead character Dong Shangcai
So fans and followers were shocked to hear about her death on Monday morning, February 3. She passed away at the age of 48.
In a report by CNA Lifestyle, Barbie's younger sister and Taiwanese entertainer Dee Hsu confirmed the news.
Dee sent this statement to Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS News. She said, "Thank you all for your concern! During the New Year holiday, our whole family traveled to Japan. My dearest and kindest sister, Xiyuan, unfortunately passed away due to flu-related pneumonia. I am grateful to have been her sister in this lifetime, to have cared for each other and accompanied each other. I will always be thankful for her and miss her forever. Shan~ Rest in peace! Love you always--Together, remember forever,"
Barbie's love team with Jerry Yan in Meteor Garden became hugely popular in the Philippines as well as in many parts of Asia. Other cast members of the hit drama include Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu.
