Brigitte Bardot, Hollywood icon, passes away at 91

French Hollywood actress and animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot has passed away, her foundation officially announced in a statement released to the press on Sunday.
“The Brigitte Bardot Foundation pays tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave everything and gave up everything for a world more respectful of animals,” The Brigitte Bardot Foundation said. “Her legacy lives on through the actions and struggles the Foundation continues with the same passion and the same fidelity to her ideals.”
Brigitte was a legend in the movie industry, rising to fame in the late 1940's breaking box-office records with films such as And God Created Woman (1956). She used her fame to promote animal rights awareness, leading to the establishment of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which was funded by her jewelry and personal belongings being auctioned. She also published books such as Pluto's Square and A Scream in the Silence. In 1984, Brigitte was diagnosed with breast cancer, and recovered in 1986 after radiation therapy.
She underwent surgery in October 2025 reportedly for a "serious illness" and has been recovering until the time of her death two months later. Her exact cause of death has not been disclosed as of writing. Brigitte is survived by her son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Brigitte leaves behind a legacy that spans groundbreaking cinema and decades of advocacy, ensuring her influence will continue to be discussed and remembered.
