Lately, more and more celebrities have taken a liking to running, including Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, Kapuso heartthrobs Alden Richards, Kristoffer Martin, Juancho Trivino, and many others. Some of them have even joined races and events and shown their capabilities as runners.

During the intimate discussion for Eastwest Bank's 30th Anniversary at the Kazu Cafe at the Ayala Triangle, Makati, Senior VP/Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications Martin Reyes shared that one of their events is the Dream Run, a series of races that happened in Davao and Cebu, with its last leg taking place in Manila.

For him, running is one of the things that can bring a community together, and they chose a running event for their anniversary since it synchronizes with their messaging and original tagline, “Your dreams, our focus.”

“People have a lot of financial goals and when you try to attain goals, it's not really for yourself sometimes, it's for your family. When you run, hindi siya madali e. Bakit ka magpapakahirap na tumakbo nang malayo, nang mahirap? It's because you're trying to achieve something more than yourself and we want to be a part of it,” he said.

Speaking about celebrity runners with GMANetwork.com, Reyes shared that they have been the best people to bring attention to running events, and helps encourage other people to join.

“Dito sa Pilipinas, mahilig sa endorsements so they trust those celebrities to inform them of things so it's also good for celebrities to run because people are informed or they're idolizing the artistas so naengganyo din sila,” he said.

Right now, they are encouraging celebrities to join the last stretch of the Dream Run happening on June 15 at the Dream Run Village in Filinvest, Alabang.

Coach Rio de la Cruz, founder of the Entraineur Events & Sports Management, and eventually, the company that became the driving force behind many races and fun run events in the Philippines, RunRio, agreed with Reyes' take about celebrity runners bringing inspiration to others to start running races.

“Malaking bagay ito kasi siyempre marami silang fans, nilu-look up sila ng mga fans nila and kapag nakikita sila na mayroong time na tumatakbo, alam naman natin na itong mga kaibigan natin ay napaka-busy, lalo na kapag may mga activity din sila so wala rin halos time na mag-exercise, pero naisisingit nila 'yung running,” Coach Rio said.

He added that celebrities have been a great inspiration to other people, as it encourages them to include running in their routine. Coach Rio is happy that celebrities are always present in several runs, and some would even organize their own running events.

“Nakaka-inspire kasi mas maraming nata-touch. 'Yung hindi namin nare-reach na community or mga group, through mga celebrity activity, nare-reach nila so nagkakaroon sila ng idea na 'Oh, ganito pala 'yung feeling ng running,'” he added.
