“Magandang send-off ito kasi mga kapwa namin Ilokano ang mga nandito.”

Cup of Joe vocalist, Gian Bernardino, said after greeting the audience at Tang's “Refreshing Rave” event in San Juan, La Union, last Saturday, April 18.

The group is set to visit US for the 'Stardust' tour this April until May.

In a quick chat with entertainment media, Gian mentioned, “Pangarap din naming talaga mag-by the beach na gig dito sa La Union, kaya thank you so much. Another dream come true.”

The event also seemed like a preview of their major 'Sandali' concert, which will be held on May 23 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan.

Another vocalist of the group, Rapha Ridao, said that this type of gig is something he really enjoys because it feels different to be part of a lineup with other artists.

He added, “Iba din yung environment kapag nag-a-outdoor. Tuwing nag-a-outdoor gig kami, naalala ko yung mga sinauna naming gigs.

“It's so refreshing din that you can get closer to the crowd, you see them singing, and nakikita mo agad yung reactions.

“Lalo na dito, sa tabi pa tayo ng beach, parang it's very calming yet very exciting. Kapag nag-merge yung dalawang yun, parang there's something in the chaos of it all.

“Sa mga ganitong gigs, we can be truly be ourselves, ang saya lang.”

The group also expressed gratitude to the popular powdered juice brand for getting them to headline the “Refreshing Rave” event.

Lead guitarist Gab Fernandez said, “We're ver grateful and we're very proud sa amin and sa team namin. We're very grateful kasi grabe ang tiwala ng brand sa amin.”

In a separate interview, the brand's executives explained that Cup of Joe was perfect for the event since they aim to create a safe space for people who want to have fun.

Karol Canlas-Apelo, senior category marketing manager for Tang from Mondelēz International Philippines, said, “We want to create a safe space where people can just be themselves and to connect with people. We understand that the world we live in right now is sobrang pressured by kailangan perfectly curated ang feeds.

“So, even in the event invites that we sent, sabi namin, walang pressure. Kung sino yung makakapunta, sino yung nandito, let's all be together, enjoying by the beach, and be connected by our shared experiences.”

She also mentioned that the OPM band resonates with their new “Refreshingly Real” campaign.

Apelo said, “With Cup of Joe, we appreciate how they recognize their journey from being a Baguio-based band to where they are now—top-selling and most streamed artist, di ba?

“They are unapologetic with their struggles, simula noong nag-uumpisa sila hanggang ngayon na sobrang dami na nilang fans.

“We also recognize na proud sila na from Baguio sila, from their province here in the north. And, of course, lahat ay namumulto ng kanilang kanta. Some of our Gen Zs, ang way ng pag-e-express nila of themselves ay through their songs.

“So, what better way to represent what the campaign is all about, which is celebrating what's real, through music and unfiltered moments with the band that embodies all that.”

For their part, Cup of Joe promises to continue creating a safe space in their performances.

“Ever since naman po we started in the industry, we've always been advocates of inclusivity, giving space to each and everyone, na ma-feel nilang every time na magpe-perform kami, they belong in this crowd.

“Parang sobrang okay din ng dynamics namin with our fans. Parang we celebrate every individuality na nakikita namin and nire-represent din naming yun sa songs namin and how we present ourselves.”
