Ely Buendia reaffirms 'Spoliarium' is not about TVJ and Pepsi Paloma

Ely Buendia once again debunked the never-ending rumor about Eraserheads' controversial song, "Spoliarium".
At the media conference of the iconic Filipino band's documentary film Combo On The Run held today, February 17, the former Eraserheads' frontman addressed a widely believed urban legend. He stated that the rumor was completely false. "It's not about TVJ. It's not about Vic Sotto and the rape," he clarified.
According to the rumors, "Spoliarium's" lyrics allude to the rape case filed by late sexy star Pepsi Paloma against Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D'Horsie in 1982. Tito Sotto was also rumored to be involved in the alleged rape and the subsequent death of the actress in the '80s.
To further disprove the theory, Ely noted that the famous comedy trio, TVJ, are his idols.
"This is a sad thing. I was really heartbroken when that thing came out because I was such a huge fan," he added. "They are my heroes and I wouldn't dream of writing a song to tarnish my heroes, so that's the most ridiculous rumor."
He then reiterated, "And [I] will maintain until today that it's not about them, it's not about Pepsi."
In his guest appearance in Wake Up with Jim and Saab podcast in March 2021, Ely revealed that “Spoliarium" is "all about getting pissed drunk.”
The legendary OPM singer also shared that the “gintong alak” found in the lyrics is actually a literal alcoholic drink called Goldschlager.
Furthermore, the characters “Enteng and Joey” mentioned in the lyrics are the band's road managers back then and not the TV hosts/comedians.
