Gela Atayde claps back at netizens commenting about Arjo's travels: 'None of your business'

The family of Quezon City representative Arjo Atayde is not backing down in defending him online after contractors Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya and Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya alleged in the ongoing Senate inquiry that he was among the lawmakers that received 'kickbacks' from government-funded flood control projects.
Gela Atayde, Arjo's youngest sister, made a statement on TikTok to address the harsh comments being thrown at her brother.
According to the dance actress, her brother entered politics to serve the people.
“He didn't enter politics for luxury, he entered to serve. A foundation can only do so much, but a Congressman can push bills, fix broken systems, and make sure taxes actually go to the right places. That's the kind of change he's working for.”
Gela continued, “His personal life? His travels? None of your business because unlike others, we can proudly say that it's the fruit of hard earned money. Your concern is valid but I think you have the wrong person here. Thank you.”

A quick check on Gela's TikTok page also showed that several netizens have been hounding her with questions about the money she is spending.
One netizen asked her, “budget from Kuya Congressman?”
She then immediately replied: “My paycheck babe. Kuya's busy serving not stealing.”

Aside from Gela, Arjo's wife Maine Mendoza has also taken to X (formerly Twitter) to show her support and stressed that her husband has not done anything illegal.
Meanwhile, Congressman Arjo also released an official statement and denied that he benefited from taxpayers money from any government projects.
"I CATEGORICALLY DENY THE ALLEGATION THAT I BENEFITED FROM ANY CONTRACTOR.
“I HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH THEM. HINDI TOTOO ANG MGA AKUSASYON NA ITO. I HAVE NEVER USED MY POSITION FOR PERSONAL GAIN. AND I NEVER WILL. I WILL AVAIL OF ALL REMEDIES UNDER THE LAW TO CLEAR MY NAME AND HOLD ACCOUNTABLE THOSE WHO SPREAD THESE FALSEHOODS."
Sylvia Sanchez is the mother of Arjo Atayde and Gela Atayde. She has two other children, actress Ria Atayde and Xavi.
