You've probably already came across this food content creator who loves putting anything in a lumpia wrapper, whether it be s'mores, buko pandan, popcorn kernels, California maki, pizza, cheeseburger, or even the all-time favorite Filipino soup, pork sinigang.
She's none other than Abi Marquez, a social media personality who gained popularity on TikTok for experimenting with lumpia recipes.
Among her viral videos is her Jollibee-inspired peach mango pie but instead of puff pastry, she used wrapped in lumpia wrapper . This is by far her most-viewed TikTok video with a staggering 30 million views.
In her guesting in Unang Hirit on Wednesday, October 18, Abi, a newly Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management graduate, talked about how the pandemic paved the way for her to enter food content creation.
She said, "Hilig ko talaga siya since bata ako so wala akong formal training in culinary or cooking but Hotel, Restaurant, Institution Management in UP Diliman but it's more on management, and we had a few subjects on cooking pero nag-pandemic kasi so everything was online."
Dubbed by netizens as the "Lumpia Queen," Abi now has 2.9 million followers and 72.4 million likes on TikTok, making her the recipient of this year's Tiktok Foodie Creator of the Year award.
"Life changing 'yung lumpia for me. I think if hindi ko nasimulan 'yung series na 'to, I wouldn't be here and I wouldn't have this award or title kasi sa lumpia talaga nagkaroon ng recall 'yung mga tao sa content ko and it's so important to me.
"And it's such a great opportunity na when I graduated [from] college, I just did content creation so, right now, I am full-time content creator doing lumpia experiments at home."
