Glaiza De Castro honors her late '58th' co-star Ricky Davao

Glaiza De Castro remembered the valuable contribution of the late actor-director Ricky Davao, who sadly passed away in 2025.
Ricky was one of the lead stars of the GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs animated documentary film “58th”
As a tribute, Glaiza described Ricky as a “hard-working and brave” talent. She stated this during the Philippine premiere of the film at the 2026 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival held at the Red Carpet Premiere Theater at Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City on Thursday, August 13.
She said, “Gusto ko rin po i-acknowledge dahil napakaimportanteng role rin po ang kaniyang ginampanan, Direk Ricky Davao.
“Ito po ang siguro isa sa mga huling pelikulang natapos niya. Kasama ko rin po siya sa 'Sang'gre,' nagkasama rin kami rito at sa 'Sinagtala' at bago siya namaalam ay talagang nakita ko kung gaano rin siya kasipag at katapang. So, masaya rin po ako na napapaligiran ako ng mga matatapang na tao.”

The GMA Pictures animated-documentary had a successful run at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in the Netherlands. It also won in the Facing the Edge category in the 2026 edition of Doc Edge Festival, New Zealand's premier documentary festival.
In her interview with Nelson Canlas, Glaiza was beaming with pride that the story of '58th' resonated with the international audience.
The award-winning actress said, “Very proud bilang isang aktor, bilang isang Filipino na marecognize outside sa Philippines. It just means na ang dami-dami nating potensyal, yung storya natin I know it's not a light story. Pero isa ito sa mga storya na hindi natin dapat kalimutan.
“At proud ako kasi naging bahagi ako ng storya na 'to para maikuwento sa bagong henerasyon kung ano 'yung nangyari dati.”
The film tackles one of the bloodiest moments in Philippine history, the Maguindanao Massacre in 2009.
In this project, Glaiza portrays Reynafe Castillo, daughter of the late journalist and 58th victim, Reynaldo Momay.
Also, in attendance during the premiere of '58th' last night was GMA News pillar and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Jessica Soho.
Soho encouraged everyone to watch this film that revisits one of the darkest point in Philippine journalism because many journalists was massacred in 2009.
“Sana ho mapanood ng mas marami itong pelikulang ito na pinaghirapan po ng GMA Public Affairs. Based on a real story, 'di ba, that is very close sa ating mga puso bilang mamahayag.” Jessica stated.
She added, “Napakadelikado ng ating trabaho pero bawat isa po sa amin, kasi may misyon para hanapin ang katotohanan. So, ito po 'yung kuwento na hango po sa nangyari sa Maguindanao doon po sa napakalungkot na trahedya na massacre 'yung napakarami po namin kasama sa propesyon na ito.
“So, sana po suportahan n'yo ang pelikulang 58th. Sana rin e makapasok ito sa Oscas 'di ba.”
Also, part of the stellar cast of '58th' are Mikoy Morales, Pinoy Big Brother housemate Marco Masa, Zyren Dela Cruz, and Biboy Ramirez.
