Celebs react to latest political events

Since the beginning of the week, the country has witnessed several developments in the government, specifically in the Senate.

It started on Monday, May 11, with the election of Alan Peter Cayetano as the new Senate President of the Philippines, replacing Senator Tito Sotto, through a leadership coup amidst the impeachment proceedings of Vice President Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives.

It was also the same day when Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa finally went back to office after a six-month absence that started in November 2025.

Then, on Wednesday, May 13, newsrooms nationwide were in a frenzy during media coverage in the Senate. According to reports, Senator Bato Dela Rosa was supposed to be handed the warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for his involvement in the Philippine war on drugs under the Duterte administration.

Senator Bato even went live on Facebook and called for help regarding his rumored arrest: "I am here calling for your help: let us not have another Filipino brought to The Hague like President Duterte.”

On Wednesday evening, in the middle of coverage, the Senate was put on lockdown. Members of the press later heard gunshots inside the building, while Senator Bato's whereabouts remain unknown.

This elicited reactions from Filipino netizens, including celebrities, who are disappointed with the recent development in the Senate. They also expressed their empathy and appreciation to the members of the press who stood in the front row of the dangerous shooting inside the Senate.
