Green Bones premiere night

Green Bones, produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, won the highly-coveted 1st Best Picture award at the MMFF 50 Gabi ng Parangal.

Starring Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, Green Bones tells the story of prisoner Domingo Zamora and his prison guard Xavier Gonzaga.

Domingo is under the possibility of parole but Xavier is making sure he will remain behind bars.

"We'd like to thank the MMFF, the 50th year MMFF, chairman [Romando] Artes, the MMFF execom, all the jurors, for this Best Picture award," GMA Pictures president Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes said as she and the whole team of Green Bones accepted the award.

"I want also share this award to the other nine films in this Metro Manila Film Festival because to make a film, it takes blood, sweat, and tears, and resources. Talagang we really risked it all because we want to tell a story.

"And, I hope people listen to all these wonderful, outstanding stories of these movies in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival."

GMA Pictures Executive Vice President Nessa Valdellon looked back on how the production company, then known as GMA Films, also won back-to-back Best Picture awards over 25 years ago. GMA Pictures also won last year's Best Picture award for the movie Firefly, starring Alessandra de Rossi and Euwenn Mikaell.

"This is historic for us. This is a very big thing for GMA Pictures. It was really our aim to bring back the glory of the film studio," Ms. Nessa said.

"25 years ago, we won for Muro-Ami. 26 years ago, for Jose Rizal. That was back-to-back. This is back-to-back, Firefly and Green Bones."

Green Bones also took home the Best Actor award for Dennis Trillo, Best Supporting Actor for Ruru Madrid, Best Screenplay for Ricky Lee and Angeli Atienza, Best Cinematography for Neil Daza, and Best Child Performer for Sienna Stevens.

Congratulations, Green Bones!
